SUNY Broome’s Hospitality Programs Department is pleased to announce that an official articulation agreement has been established between SUNY Broome and the New York State Restaurant Association’s ProStart program. This single articulation agreement connects high school students from fifty-six high schools across the states of New York and Vermont with SUNY Broome’s culinary arts, event management, and hospitality management programs. 

Students enrolled in ProStart’s career and technical curriculum develop practical and essential techniques in culinary skills and restaurant management principles. ProStart students are eligible to earn up to six credits while in high school which can be transferred into SUNY Broome.

Chairperson of Hospitality Programs, Maria K. Montemagno, genuinely believes in the power of engaging with high school culinary and hospitality programs. With the support Associate Dean of Hospitality and Culinary Event Center, Michael Stamets, Montemagno has been diligently leading the efforts to establish articulation agreements with Broome Tioga BOCES, DCMO BOCES (Stamets’ alma mater), and OHM BOCES. These relationships will help to funnel students directly into the Hospitality Programs’ pipeline. 

“Building relationships with high school culinary and hospitality programs is critical. We want to know about all of the students who have an interest in our field and want them to know that SUNY Broome is a great place to continue their hospitality and culinary education,” said Stamets. 

 Montemagno, Stamets, and a member of the Admissions team will be attending the New York State Skills USA competition on April 28, 2022 to connect with the competitors and encourage them to explore SUNY Broome.
