SUNY Broome opened its doors to more than 400 prospective students and their families for the College’s annual Fall Open House on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023.

Guests began their day on campus in the Baldwin Gym, where they had the opportunity to gather information from over 20 of SUNY Broome’s departments dedicated to student support. Representatives from teams ranging from the Learning Assistance Department, to Fast Forward Program/Early College, to Veterans & Military Affairs were on hand to make connections and answer questions.

A series of workshops were presented throughout the event on topics including how to navigate the Financial Aid process, tips for College Success and support via the Educational Opportunity Program, and the pros of participating in collegiate athletics.

Prospective students and their families were then invited to explore SUNY Broome’s campus through division-based tabling in all of the major academic buildings. Over 75 faculty members were available to show off their respective learning spaces and meet one-on-one with students to highlight the educational opportunities connected to their programs.

Connor Deming specifically came to SUNY Broome’s Fall Open House to see the Communications and Media Arts: A.S. department’s new podcast studio. “I came to SUNY Broome to study entrepreneurship right out of high school, but the combination of the timing and program proved not to be the right fit for me,” Deming said. “Podcasting is such an underutilized format for academic consumption, and I would like to learn as much about it as possible. I’d love to work with a mic for a living, so this studio is literally like a candy shop for me.”

Between meeting with faculty and staff and attending informational sessions, attendees were encouraged to participate in campus tours, which departed every half hour, with specialized tours of the Student Village. Guests were treated to light refreshments pre and post-tour and were invited to have lunch in the Student Center Cafe or grab a meal to-go. A selection of SUNY Broome swag items were presented as thank-you giveaways. The event’s youngest visitors were treated to a special coloring station to design their best SUNY Broome logos and mascots.

Special thanks to SUNY Broome’s Open House Committee for their months of preparation, which resulted in such a successful event.
