SUNY Broome softball team hosted a doubleheader with Hudson Valley CC

The softball team hosted a doubleheader with Hudson Valley CC on Tuesday and was defeated in both games.

The visiting Vikings logged 12 hits and capitalized on nine Broome errors en route to an 18-0 win in game 1. They added 13 hits and capitalized on seven Broome errors in a 17-1 win in the second game, both finals after five innings. The hosting Hornets played game 1 as the home team and then flipped to the visitor in game 2.

Sarah Espe was the highlight of the contest in the first game for Broome. Espe dealt eight strikeouts from the circle and fielded her position on another play on her way to being responsible for nine of the Hornets’ 15 recorded outs in the game. The home team in that contest, Broome played the field for all five innings. At the dish, Espe was also 2-2, accounting for both of Broome’s hits.

Hannah Aton had the only hit in game 2 of the doubleheader for the Hornets and stole a base after she got on. Jozzlyn Hall started in the circle for Broome and was replaced by Alana Espinoza, who was the pitcher in the circle for all of the outs that Broome recorded in the contest. She struck out three hitters and walked just one over 4.0 innings pitched. Acting as the visitor in game 2, Broome did not take the field in the fifth inning.

Following Tuesday’s 0-2 mark, Broome falls to 3-13 on the season. The Hornets will be home again on Thursday night for a doubleheader vs Jefferson CC, taking place under the lights at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park.
