SUNY Broome men's soccer team fell to Hudson Valley CC in a heartbreaking loss

The men’s soccer team fell to Hudson Valley CC in a heartbreaking loss in the ninth minute of overtime on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornet’s fell to 3-8 on the year while the Vikings improved to 8-3-1.

Hudson Valley took a 2-0 lead into the 77th minute of play before Broome’s Mateo Lata finished a cross from Yuri Brich to cut the lead in half. Owen Moretin kept the pressure on in the Viking’s backfield allowing Lata to find Brich for the equalizer in the 82nd minute.

With the time in regulation expiring, John Simmons appeared to have the game-winner when he finished a ball inside the 6-yard box only to have the goal waived off. In the 9th minute of overtime, Hudson Valley was finally able to squeak one past Broome’s goalie, Eric Yingling, for the OT win. Yingling came up with another exceptional game in goal with 7 saves.

Broome travels to Buffalo for a rare Friday night match under the lights against the Buffalo JV team at Coyer Field beginning at 7:00 pm.
