CORONAVIRUS NEWS AND LOCAL ACTIONS 

Following reports of a confirmed case of coronavirus in Broome County, County Executive Jason Garner, stated:

“There are NO confirmed COVID-19 cases in Broome County. The state incorrectly identified a positive case that actually occurred in a DIFFERENT county. The patient is currently living in that other county & is quarantined there.

Again, there are NO confirmed cases in Broome Co.”

UPDATES ON CAMPUS RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS

SUNY Broome Coronavirus Actions Summary

In accordance with SUNY guidelines, SUNY Broome will take the following actions:

  • The College will remain open while providing a wide range of online and alternative instruction methods to limit student numbers on campus. Additional details will be communicated by March 19, with official implementation on March 20.
  • We will provide a wide range of opportunities for training and support to faculty and students impacted by instructional changes. 
  • Our Student Village (residence hall), dining hall, computer labs, and other campus facilities and buildings will remain open to accommodate all student needs.
  • We will immediately limit all campus events to gatherings of up to 100 internal or 50 external guests. Events that exceed these numbers will be cancelled. 
  • A decision regarding our Commencement Ceremony will be made by May 1st.
  • Anyone considered to be at high risk due to a chronic health issues may work out accommodations with their division head to study or work from home if otherwise required to be on campus.

REMINDERS FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  • We will continue implementing expanded sanitation efforts.
  • Covering coughs and sneezes — source: CDC Website
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
    • Throw used tissues in the trash.
    • Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
