The SUNY Broome Speakers of the House Toastmasters Club held a pizza party and speech contest on December 11, 2020 at 3:00 pm. The virtual event was also the kickoff of a fundraiser for the SUNY Broome Food Pantry, which is operated by the Student Assembly.
The contest:
Fourteen students competed and gave thoughtful and interesting answers to questions ranging from, “What do you love about yourself?” to “What have you read that’s inspired you recently?” to “What do you see when you close your eyes?” They were poised and confident, and did a great job. Effective Speaking faculty members Matt Papkov and Kathleen McKenna and SUNY Broome Student Ernesto Colon organized the event. Domino’s Pizza donated and delivered pizzas to the participants, and will donate to the campus food pantry additional certificates for pizzas. Student Activities and the Office of the President funded the prize money.
Winners of the event were:
Grand Prize–Lara Dal Pont- $100
Semifinalists–Yvonne Appleton–$25; Nicholas Honkin–$25; Arnecca Weathers–$25.
The fundraiser for the campus Food Pantry continues all week:
Through the generosity of two anonymous donors, up to $1,000 in donations will be matched.
So, if we can raise $1,000 in donations to our BCC Foundation for the Food Pantry, that amount will be doubled to $2,000!
