SUNY Broome is delighted to announce the addition of three new members of the campus community! 

Elizabeth (Ellie) Rivera has assumed the role of Senior Staff Assistant for Continuing Education and Workforce Development and the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP). This position was previously held by Darlene Kanuk prior to her retirement in December 2022. In addition to her new role with Continuing Education and Workforce Development, Rivera serves as an adjunct instructor for SUNY Broome’s English Department. 

Rivera is an EAC graduate with businesses in real estate, retail, education, and performing arts.  In 2020, she was named a winner of the EAC’s Business Plan Competition. She returned to the EAC in the capacity of instructor for the 60-hour Program in 2022 and is excited to act as an instrumental resource in the successes of current and future clients.

Housed in SUNY Broome’s collaborative space within the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator, the Entrepreneurial Assistance Center has hosted 19, 60-hour programs for start-up entrepreneurs and growing businesses. Since its creation in 2005, SUNY Broome, in collaboration with Binghamton Local Development Corporation and Broome Triad, has supported over 600 new businesses with action-items like business plan development, technical assistance, and specialty certifications. Alumni businesses of the EAC include Southern Tier staples such as Parlor City Vegan, Idea Kraft, FreshySites, the Black Cat Gallery.

Marisa Tubaugh has joined the Enrollment Management subdivision as the in-house Web Developer. Tubaugh comes to SUNY Broome with a wealth of web development knowledge through her previous positions in the marketing and tech industries. She also is a talented graphic designer. Marisa’s day-to-day roles include maintaining, developing, and designing the College’s website, portal, and mobile resources. Her main priority is to make the College’s website and mobile applications aesthetically pleasing, user-friendly, and accessible. Marisa is excited to return to her alma mater to lend her creative and technical skills to supporting the College’s online presence.

Varija Sankapalli has joined the Institutional Effectiveness team as the College’s Institutional Research Analyst. Sankapalli was born and educated in Hyderabad, India where she studied computer science and engineering. While still in India, Varija worked as a software engineer and data analyst. In addition to her experiences in industry, Sankapalli has extensive credentials and certifications in data analytics. Five years ago, Varija relocated to the United States with her husband, who at the time was completing his PhD at Binghamton University. As the Institutional Research Analyst, Sankapalli compiles and analyzes data, as well as prepares regulatory external reporting to ensure the College’s compliance.
