There is a common adage in the world of the State University of New York system that, “there’s a SUNY for everyone.” SUNY Broome enhanced that saying on April 20, 2023 to the plural, encouraging over 600 regional students to explore SUNY Broome and our 63 sister SUNY campuses. Hosted in the Ice Center, all of the State University of New York’s 64 campuses gathered to share information about their respective institutions and to recruit students.

“Ideally, these students could attend a few SUNY’s in this room throughout their academic careers. A student could start at SUNY Broome, transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree from another school, and finish a graduate degree from another, all while staying in the SUNY system,” said Career and Transfer Counselor, Joe Spence.

School counselors and their students from within an hour radius flocked to campus to engage with admissions representatives, learn about financial aid, and gather information on specialty programs such as the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). A morning session was designated for area school districts, while the evening hours were open to members of the community.

SUNY Fairs have been a long-standing enrollment tradition within the SUNY system and include dozens of pop-up events across the state, culminating with the largest event in New York City.

The SUNY Fair also included a sneak peak of SUNY Broome’s new Director of Admissions, Owen Conklin. Conklin, previously of SUNY Oneonta, is no stranger to SUNY Fairs, and welcomed the opportunity to reconnect with local school counselors, in addition to pre-meeting members of SUNY Broome’s campus community. Conklin officially assumed the position of Director of Admissions on April 24, 2024.

SUNY Broome’s next major enrollment event will be the Spring Open House on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
