It’s that time of year again! The students have arrived and classes for the fall semester are officially in session. In honor of the new academic year, SUNY Broome is continuing the tradition of reserving the first two weeks of the classes as official “Welcome Weeks.” Throughout these two weeks, faculty and staff host a series of events, workshops, and information sessions for students to learn about campus services and activities.

The highlight of Welcome Weeks was the inaugural “Picnic with the President” on August 31, 2023. Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff made their way to the Student Center Quad for a cook-out with SUNY Broome’s new president, Dr. Tony D. Hawkins.  In addition to a BBQ lunch, attendees were invited to spend the afternoon playing miniature golf, yard games, bubble soccer, and to test their balancing skills on a mechanical bull. The weather was ideal for socializing on the Quad and for at least one visit to the ice cream truck.

“It’s so nice to have the campus full of students,” President Hawkins shared. “We all have missed the energy and excitement that they bring.”

SUNY Broome’s Welcome Weeks also mark the kick off student clubs, activities, and athletics. Currently, the College offers over 50 groups ranging from academic clubs, to social organizations, to D-III athletic programs. Students are encouraged to check the Swarm for daily updates on club meetings, home and away games, and campus-wide events.
