Members of SUNY Broome Athletics attended the 19th annual Binghamton University Celebrating Women’s Athletics Luncheon on Monday.

The event, hosted by Binghamton University Athletics, is a nationally recognized gathering that serves as a way to honor the dedication of female student-athletes and bolster the women’s athletics scholarship fund at the university. To date, the Luncheon has raised over half a million dollars for scholarships and has benefitted 82 recipients of the Binghamton Bearcats Athletic Association (BBAA) Women’s Scholarship.

The featured speaker at the event was standout WNBA player and 2X Olympic Gold Medalist, Angel McCoughtry. McCoughtry was a three-time All-American in women’s basketball at the University of Louisville from 2007-2009. She graduated in 2009 as the university’s all-time leading scorer with 2,779 points and the all-time leader in rebounds with 1,261 and steals with 481. McCoughtry was the #1 pick in the 2009 WNBA draft and was named a 5X All-Star, a 6X All-WNBA selection, and a 7X WNBA All-Defensive Team selection throughout her career.

Several female student-athletes and women in positions of power from SUNY Broome Athletics had the opportunity to attend the event. SUNY Broome Director of Athletics, Colleen Cashman, a Binghamton University graduate and former student-athlete, attended the Luncheon with colleagues Heather Hoffman, an Assistant Professor and the Chairperson for Physical Education and Sport Studies at the college, and Anna Hotalen who is a former SUNY Broome student-athlete and now an Assistant Coach for the women’s basketball team.
