The SUNY Broome Student Philanthropy Council and the Foundation would like to announce that, with the support of our campus, we have raised $1,172 through the Student Giving Campaign for the Student Giving Peer Scholarship. With five months left before we award the scholarship in May 2023, we have enough money to give out two $500 scholarships to two deserving students! But we are not done yet! There is still more time in the spring semester, so we have extended our goal to $2,000 total to be able to offer four $500 Student Giving Peer Scholarships!

We want to express our deep gratitude to those who helped us reach this early milestone. Thank you to our primary organizers and volunteers who assisted with bake sales, basket raffles, fundraisers at local restaurants, and other efforts: Jamie Smith, SUNY Broome Foundation Alumni & Development Associate and the advisor of the Student Philanthropy Council, the council members — Jordyn Dutcher, Abigail Lyon, Georgia Novitsky, Isabelle Dithrich, Sydney Velez Mattiace, Dominique Boyce, Logan Everson, and Katiana Dallard — and student volunteers DeLaney Painter and Zoe Gifford.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by a bake sale table to buy a brownie, donated cookies, ordered a pizza or burger at a restaurant fundraiser, participated in a drawing for a basket or prize, or made an outright gift. Your support has been incredible!

We invite you to mark your calendars for our next restaurant fundraiser at Panera Bread and keep an eye out for how you can help us on campus. You can also keep track of our progress or make a gift on our Student Giving Campaign page.

Students, you are encouraged to apply for this and other scholarships when the scholarship application opens in January and consider joining the Student Philanthropy Council. It’s an amazing feeling to be raising scholarship money for one of your fellow Hornets!

Thank you again, SUNY Broome family, for your faithful generosity towards our students!
