Campus was buzzing on Saturday, August 26, 2023 as 233 residents moved into SUNY Broome’s Student Village. “Move-In Day” was facilitated through a collaborative effort from Student Development and Diversity, Public Safety, and a team of over 60 faculty, staff, and student volunteers.

Dr. Tony D. Hawkins was thrilled to unload cars and carry boxes to support the students and their families during his first “Move-In Day” as President of SUNY Broome. “I remember saying goodbye to my parents and starting a new beginning as an undergraduate. It’s such an exciting time,” President Hawkins said.

President Hawkins worked alongside the RD and RA’s to ensure that each Student Village resident was properly welcomed to the campus community.

The 233 residents of the Student Village are divided amongst 60 apartment-style suites between four floors. Resident Assistants Jada Palmer, Roee Linder, and Riley Tomasovitch were on hand to welcome their new neighbors and offer advice for a successful year. “Remember why you came to SUNY Broome and use that as motivation when things get tough,” said Linder. “Go with the flow and always keep yourself open to creating new bonds and relationships.”

A picnic lunch for the new residents, their families, and the volunteers was supplied by SUNY Broome’s community partner, Central Baptist Church. The Central Baptist Church team started preparing at 7:00 a.m. to present the crowd with 600+ hotdogs, bagged snacks, fresh baked goods, and drinks. This annual act of service is always appreciated! (No one wants to be hungry on “Move-In Day!”)

Special thanks to our community partners at Central Baptist Church for providing lunch.
