The softball team hosted a doubleheader with SUNY Adirondack on Sunday, falling 12-9 in a thrilling game 1 and losing 10-4 in game 2.

The scoring was started early on Sunday as the visiting Timberwolves scored four runs in the top of the first inning and Broome followed with two in the bottom half. Adirondack then scored two in the second and five in the third to take an 11-3 lead into the fourth inning. The home Hornets staged a furious comeback throughout the rest of the game with three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth, but a scoreless seventh frame saw Adirondack survive 12-9.

Alana Espinoza picthed a complete game in game 1 for the Hornets and struck out three hitters.

Hannah Aton went 4-5 at the plate with an RBI and scored three runs. Icey Jones was 1-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Espinoza showed her skills on both sides of the ball with a 2-2 day at the dish, driving in a run, scoring two runs, and drawing two walks. Brianna Hanley was 2-2 with an RBI while Makaeyla Ailport and Kiara Doyle also had one RBI each.

Sarah Espe started on the mound for Broome in game 2, allowing just five hits and striking out four over 4.0 innings. Espinoza returned to the mound to finish it off for the Hornets.

Ailport was successful at the plate again in game 2, going 2-4 with an RBI. Jozzlyn Hall was 2-2 and scored a run and drew a walk. Those two accounted for all of Broome’s four hits in the contest.

The Hornets’ record now sits at 2-6 as they get ready for a busy week where they will play three doubleheaders, beginning with a clash against Finger Lakes at home on Tuesday, slated for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. first-pitches.
