Last week, the softball team lost a doubleheader on Friday vs Tompkins Cortland and a doubleheader on Sunday vs Corning.

The Hornets dropped game 1 of the doubleheader on Friday to the Panthers, 9-0. The team managed just one hit, which was a double secured by Makaeyla Ailport, but it did draw three walks at the plate and added a stolen base. Sarah Espe pitched the entirety of game 1, striking out six batters over 4.0 innings.

Friday’s game 2 vs Tompkins Cortland was a 13-4 final. Espe was 2-3 with an RBI while Brianna Hanley, Alana Espinoza, Abigail Rice, Kiara Doyle, and Karissa Camp each added a hit. The Hornets managed to out-hit the Panthers 7-6 despite the loss. Espinoza went the distance on the mound in game 2, allowing just three earned runs and tallying five strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

After traveling to Cortlandville, NY on Friday, Broome went to Corning, NY on Sunday for two games against the #4 nationally ranked Corning CC Red Barons. Hanley contributed the only hit for the Hornets in a 15-0 decision in game 1. Espe struck out five over 4.0 innings from the circle.

Broome had a better offensive fortune in game 2 on Sunday, scoring three runs in a 12-3 defeat. Hannah Aton led the offensive attack with two hits. She scored two runs and drove in two runs, thanks to a double and a home run, her first and the team’s first of the season. Hanley also added a sacrifice fly while Jozzlyn Hall was 1-1 with a single. Espinoza stole a base and struck out four Red Barons over 5.0 innings.

With an 0-4 roadtrip now in the books, the Hornets fall to 3-11. Broome will be at home against its next two opponents this week, hosting Hudson Valley at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and hosting Jefferson at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. under the lights on Thursday.
