SUNY Broome Oceanography students on the beach in South Carolina.

SUNY Broome Oceanography students recently traveled to the University of South Carolina’s Baruch Marine Research Laboratory near Georgetown, South Carolina, over spring break to assist with ongoing estuary research.

Students participated in a marine species fish count and toured the estuary by boat, collecting zooplankton and water samples and trolling for fish. In our troll, we even caught several squid!

Students were impressed with the natural beaches we hiked and the diversity of shells and materials found in these protected areas.

Interested in accomplishing your general education Natural Science credit at the beach next spring break? Contact Professor Leet at leetkk@sunybroome.edu to get on the list for next spring. We love having students of any major on campus!
