Greetings from the SUNY Broome Admissions Office,
We are happy to share a summary of what’s going on in the world of admissions and recruitment this spring. We keep moving forward building connections and assisting students.
Thank you to everyone who assisted us with Open House this past weekend. This great event would not have been possible without the amazing faculty, staff and students who support it and connection with prospective students. We welcomed over 200 students and families to our campus with a 4.5% increase in attendance from last year. Research shows establishing connections with faculty and staff leads to better student enrollment and engagement, and we did that through this hands-on experience.
In addition to Open House, looking at this cycle (Sept. 2023 to today) the Admissions Office has welcomed 26 group visits, conducted 88 campus tours, held 20 information sessions, attended over 50 college fairs and high school visits, and connected with 10 community events. We will continue this through the summer with regular tours and appointments with students. Also, the Mobile Enrollment Vehicle will bring SUNY Broome On the Go to events and communities in our surrounding area. We are working with local partners in each visit to have the most impact on each community or in each event. This includes work with local libraries, schools, businesses, and nonprofits that see the value of a SUNY Broome Education. If you would like us to connect with any event or community organization you are affiliated with please reach out to me directly to discuss building that relationship.
Since our last update we have had a few new staff join our office. We welcomed Zach Nedbalski as a Part Time Staff Associate in our office. Zach is a former college lacrosse coach at Methodist University who grew up in Broome county and recently returned to the area. He will be working at our front desk with direct connections to students and families. We also welcomed Phala McCormick as a new Student Records Specialist. As a SUNY Broome alum and former Teacher’s Aide, Phala is very familiar with working with student’s records and will help our office maintain communication with students. Congratulations are also in order for Steve Fetterman as he has been promoted to Senior Computer Operator, overseeing operations in our office within Banner and Slate. With this great team we have in place we keep making impacts to reach more students with the highest possible quality in service.
Lastly, this summer our office will continue to learn and grow as we bring in students for Fall 2024. We will be working on projects for efficiency and improved communications alongside all our programs. I’ll be setting up meetings to refresh myself and the admissions staff in some areas, or to gain knowledge on program changes. We also will begin working on specific email communications for each academic program to provide drip communication based on prospective student’s interest in the field. We will be using the information each program provided for their One Sheets in order to build these communications. These One Sheets are also being used in the Admissions Office to relay information to students when they visit the campus. We encourage any program working on their One Sheet to move forward on it this summer, and let us know if we can support you.
We wish you the best as we finish the spring semester!
