SUNY Broome picked up a home win on Saturday against Tompkins-Cortland CC

Broome picked up a home win on Saturday against Tompkins Cortland CC, 40-24 before traveling to Fulton Montgomery on Sunday and a 76-57 loss.

On Saturday against the Panthers a stingy Hornet defense proved to be the deciding factor in a game that saw both teams struggle on the offensive end of the floor. Broome held the visitors to 14 points through the first three quarters before giving up 10 points in the final frame. The Hornets were led in the scoring column by Brooke Ladd and Megan Carden with 10 points each followed by Ava Eichler and Dana Stepp with 9 and 6 respectively. Ladd turned in another double-double with 15 rebounds to go with her 10 points, Stepp also had a big night on the boards with 14. Madison Kelly led the Panthers with 14 points, all in the second half, and the only Panther to score in the second half.

Sunday’s trip to Fulton Montgomery was a slow start for Broome, falling behind 24-15 after one quarter of play before closing the gap to five going in to halftime, 38-33. The Hornets got to within three several times in the second half only to have the Raiders answer back with runs of their own. Eichler led all scorers with 25 points and was one of three Hornets with 7 rebounds. Ladd filled the stat line with 16 points, 7 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals and an impressive 7 blocks and Stepp chipped in with 5 points, 5 assists, 5 boards and 4 steals. Melissa Carden was the other Hornet with 7 rebounds and Gwendolyn Payne contributed by way of the three-ball with 9 points to go with her 5 boards.
