SUNY Broome Baseball against Tompkins Cortland CC

The baseball team took on Tompkins Cortland CC on Thursday afternoon and came home with a split, falling 12-0 in the opener and taking the nightcap 14-9.

The Hornets struggled in game one, managing just one hit in the five inning game off the bat of second baseman Nate Bennett. Tanner Russin took the loss for the visiting Hornets, the pitcher allowed five hits and ten runs over two innings, striking out four.

The nightcap saw the Hornets jump out to a 10-4 lead over the Panthers and never looked back. Broome tallied 17 hits in the game led by Jack Symons and Jaden Bongiorno with four hits each, the former had three doubles and the latter had two. Jacob Garey and Tyler Kopolow followed with three hits apiece and Kopolow led the way in RBIs with five. Symons picked up the win on the mound for the Hornets, the righty went five and two-third innings and allowed thirteen hits and seven runs while striking out three and walking two.

Broome will return home on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Kats from Erie CC, scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
