“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” ~ Sir Winston Churchill
It is with much gratitude that this message goes out to the SUNY Broome community!
When we opened the doors to the Hornet Hope Center on January 29 we had no idea what the first semester would bring. I am happy to report that every piece of this adventure has been a huge success!
And that success was supported by the SUNY Broome community far more than any other source.
A look at the numbers:
- Almost 1,300 visits from approximately 300 students (compared to 41 visits in November & December 2023)
- 4,716.5 lbs. of food were distributed to students
- 737.5 lbs. of clothing/hygiene/household items were distributed to students
Donations to the Hornet Hope Center for the Spring 2024 semester:- Anonymous donors: 118.5 lbs. of food & 77.5 lbs. of clothing/hygiene/household items
- Community donors: 363.5 lbs. of food & 539 lbs. of clothing/hygiene/household items
- CHOW: 2,158.5 lbs. of food
- SBCC Community (students, staff, faculty, alumni):
2,509.5 lbs. of food & 2,326 lbs. of clothing/hygiene/household items
I have been told that this model – the campus community providing the majority of the donations to the Hornet Hope Center – is unprecedented in the food pantry world.
Your generosity has made a difference in the lives of our students and I know how grateful they are!
My personal Thank You to every single person who helped out this semester… you know who you are!
Your kindness humbles me,
Lorie
