Society for the Teaching of Psychology (Division 2 of the American Psychological Association)

Dr. William S. Altman of SUNY Broome Community College’s Psychology and Human Services Department is pleased to announce the publication of Student Preparedness and Success in Introductory Psychology in the journal Teaching of Psychology, the journal of record for the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (Division 2 of the American Psychological Association).

Because reading comprehension and writing ability are critical to students’ success in introductory psychology, Dr. Altman, Dr. Judith Pena-Shaff (Ithaca College), Dr. Craig Nicholls (Independent Researcher), and Cassandra Domingo (a former SUNY Broome student now studying for her Ph.D. in Aviation Psychology at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University) explore whether ACCUPLACER® test scores help predict performance in introductory psychology, and the effectiveness of reading and writing remediation classes in helping students, particularly those with low ACCUPLACER® scores.

The article is currently available on the Teaching of Psychology website: Student Preparedness and Success in Introductory Psychology
