Tournament Champions - SUNY Broome Dominates at Rage in the Cage
On March 23, the IEEE Club, including Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology students, joined professor Gary DiGiacomo on a trip to Bloomsburg PA, to compete in the 11th annual National Robotics League “Rage in the Cage” competition. The team was ready to fight with their new and improved designs of “Murder Hornet” and “Push Comes to Shove”.

This was the fourth time SUNY Broome competed in this intense double elimination style robot combat competition, where custom-built robots go head-to-head in an enclosed combat arena, trying to destroy and eliminate their opponents. In between matches students are put on the spot, and challenged to repair and rebuild their robots in an extreme time crunch before the next round of competition.

Even though it was not our finest moment, our robot made the Bloomsburg local news when they featured it being launched into the air by our opponent as they reported on the contest. Check out the full news report.

The hard work and long hours paid off, as the SUNY Broome team made an undefeated run with “Push Comes to Shove” and came home as Tournament Champions! This new trophy will look great in the trophy case with the 1st place, 2nd place, and Best Engineered Robot trophies from 2022, and 3rd place from our first Rage in the Cage competition in 2021. The team looks forward to improving the robots, and returning to Bloomsburg to defend their title at next year’s competition.

Congratulations to professor Gary DiGiacomo and the SUNY Broome team!
