On Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22, the SUNY Broome Veterans Office and the Alumni Affairs Department will jointly sponsor the departure and arrival of Mission 16 of the Twin Tiers Honor Flight. We are honored to host this event on the SUNY Broome campus at the Student Center.
The Twin Tiers Honor Flight (TTHF) is a non-profit charitable organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for their sacrifices. As part of the National Honor Flight Network, they transport veterans to Washington, D.C. The trip aims to allow distinguished veterans to visit their war memorials, including the Vietnam Wall, the Korean Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Air Force Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery.
Sadly, many of these brave veterans did not receive the hero’s welcome they deserved upon returning from their service years ago. That’s why TTHF urges the Binghamton-area community
to come together and extend a warm send-off and a heartfelt welcome to these deserving heroes.
The “welcome home” ceremony is a moving and emotional tribute to our veterans and their families. On Sunday, October 22, the buses will return to campus between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the bus loop by the Student Center. As a community, we invite our entire campus to join us at that time to welcome them home. We have many veteran alumni, students, faculty, and staff members – and showing up would be a great way to honor and thank them for serving. State Police vehicles will escort the buses from the NY/PA border back to campus. When the buses return, each veteran is individually announced and paired with their waiting families.
