Rooted in the Land: The Music of Black Americans

Julia O’Connell’s music history class, From Spirituals to Hip Hop: American Music of the African Diaspora, have curated and mounted a stunning visual exhibit in the Gallery @ SUNY Broome in the Cecil C. Tyrell Library. The exhibit, “Rooted in the Land: The Music of Black Americans,” uses art, photography, sound, poetry, and original multimedia installations to tell the story of Black music and its deep connections to the American soil.

The show is free and open to students, faculty, and the public. Guided tours are available on request. “Rooted in the Land” will be up through the end of Black History Month.

The exhibition is open during library hours:  M-Th 7:30 am – 9:00 pm, Friday 7:30 am – 5:00 pm, Sat. 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Sun. 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
