Poverty 101: Learning How to Be the Difference for SUNY Broome Students (Cohort 2)

September 29 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

SUNY Broome Professional development

As part of our campus’ ongoing Pathways initiative, our Poverty 101: Learning How to Be the Difference for SUNY Broome Students professional development mini-course is designed to teach participants how to improve educational outcomes for students who are living in the crisis of poverty. It consists of three 2-hour sessions that will walk you through the lived experiences of many of our students and community residents, helping participants to gain awareness, teaching and learning strategies, and a personalized action plan for improving the educational experiences of our students who are living in the warzone of poverty.

Our Professional Development mini-course is based on the groundbreaking work of Dr. Donna Beegle and brings to life her more than two decades of research in breaking barriers of poverty. It is designed for all campus professionals seeking actionable information on how to work with our most vulnerable students and in support of helping them achieve their goals at SUNY Broome.

All participants will be provided with an Action Approach Guidebook and will work through this throughout the sessions while we review Dr. Donna Beegle’s research and think about the experiences of our students and identify action steps for change that we can take to create a more inclusive and supportive living and learning environment.

We are excited to be offering two cohorts of this program:
