This February, under New Energy New York(NENY), SUNY Broome’s Workforce Development is proud to host the first on-campus Battery Day celebration, featuring a campus-wide initiative promoting battery recycling and hands-on display and informational tabling Tuesday, February 18.
Starting Thursday, February 6, a Battery Recycling Drive will be held with drop off locations throughout campus. (See map of drop off locations).
The collected batteries will be sent to Broome County Landfill to be sent for recycling.
Educational materials and battery recycling kits will be handed out in the CAM Corridor and AT Atrium Wednesday February 5 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The drive ends on Thursday, February 27, however, you can still drop off your batteries at the Ice Center Main Entrance drop off location anytime 24/7.
Please NOTE: We will not accept industrial-grade, EV or oversized batteries. We will only accept household commonly used single use and rechargeable batteries.
Batteries power our lives, from cell phones and laptops to electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. But what happens when they’re no longer usable?
Improper disposal of batteries can release harmful chemicals into the environment, polluting soil and water.
Recycling batteries conserves resources and reduces waste, ensuring a stronger economy and healthier planet for future generations.
Tuesday, February 18 is International Battery Day.
Join us in the AT Atrium to explore the different battery and clean energy programs SUNY Broome has to offer and how batteries shape our world.
Clubs and Departments involved:
NENY is a coalition of local companies and organizations led by Binghamton University with a mission to establish and build the battery and energy storage ecosystem in Upstate NY.
SUNY Broome is a proud coalition member and has played a significant role in workforce development by developing programs such as the BTECH Labs and Clean Energy Microcredential and integrating battery related curriculum in programs such as the OITP Manufacturing Bootcamp, Lineworker Program, and the Hornet Institute summer programs.
