THE SUNY-Broome Theater Club will be presenting Michael Frayn’s comic masterpiece Noises Off! on April 12 and 13, 2024.
Plot summary: It’s the night before the Nothing On tour opens, and the cast is far from ready. Instead of rehearsing the madcap, bawdy farce they are supposed to be putting on, they can barely make it through one act. They fumble their props, break character, lose contact lenses, forget lines, and vex their exasperated director and hapless, exhausted stage managers. The web of personal relationships among the actors and the production staff complicates matters even more. A month later, the tour is in full swing. But things have seriously (comically) deteriorated. We are now watching the largely silent action from backstage while the show goes on—after a fashion—on the other side of the set. The cast and crew are in chaos, dealing with suspected infidelity, a secret pregnancy, and an ongoing drinking problem they are doing their best to thwart. Another month passes, and the show is staggering to its close. We are back in the audience, watching the show descend into confusion. As the backstage drama takes over the onstage action, the play comes to a hilarious and unexpectedly logical end.
