SUNY Broome Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 At Genesee POD

The volleyball team participated in a POD over the weekend hosted by Genesee CC, coming away with a 1-1 record.

The Hornets first faced off against Jamestown CC and then matched up with the hosting Cougars of Genesee CC. Broome would earn a 3-1 win over the Jayhawks but suffer a 3-1 loss to the Cougars.

The Hornets started the match off strong with a dominant 25-12 win in the first set. After dropping the second set 21-25, Broome answered to win the third and fourth sets 25-6 and 25-9. Kate Spencer registered a match-high 12 kills for the Hornets, while Amariah Argro added six. Argro also had 17 service aces and 14 digs in the contest. Ha Tran notched 18 assists. Ayshah Almashni had nine service aces and 14 digs. Spencer added six.

In the second match of the day, Broome fell behind early by losing the first two sets, 17-25 and 19-25. The Hornets rallied for a 25-20 win in the third set to stay alive, but suffered a close 21-25 defeat in the fourth set to drop the match. Spencer again had a match-high in kills with 10, tying a player from the Cougars. She added 15 digs. Argro had nine kills and 20 digs. Tran tallied 24 assists. Almashni had 15 digs as the Hornets recorded 69 in that category as a team.

The Hornets sit at 3-4 on the season and will have three more opportunities this week to snag another win. First, Broome will host Jefferson CC on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Then on Saturday afternoon, the Hornets will travel to Corning CC for a Tri-Match with the Red Barons and the Lazers of Onondaga CC.
