The women’s soccer team took to the road to play Jamestown CC on Wednesday, winning a close 2-1 decision.
The Hornets and the Jayhawks were deadlocked for the majority of the first half. Just before halftime in the 41st minute, a Jamestown forward received a through ball pass for a breakaway and slipped the ball into the net. Jamestown led 1-0 at the half.
In the second stanza, Broome took control of possession and developed an improved offensive attack. Zephora Brouillette scored in the 51st minute off a solo corner kick that was neatly placed past the keeper, tying the match at 1-1. In the 76th minute, Emelinne Corrington advanced up the field and scored off a cross inside the box from Amber Perry, putting Broome up 2-1.
The Hornets continued their offensive pressure, outshooting Jamestown 17-6. Brouillette has now scored six of Broome’s 10 goals on the year.
Madeline Hyzer had two impressive breakaway saves and a diving save, totaling three saves on the day in her efforts to prevent the Jayhawks from scoring for the remainder of the game.
With the 2-1 victory, Broome improves to 2-8 on the season and will next welcome SUNY Niagara to Alumni Field on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
