The women’s soccer team won its second straight game on Thursday by shutting out SUNY Niagara at home, 3-0.

The Hornets had an inspired start to the contest, opening the scoring in just the third minute. Jessica Wells carried the ball down the field to the corner inside the box and delivered a cross to Haley Beckwith, who finished with a one-time shot.

While Broome continued to attack, SUNY Niagara remained consistent in their own attacks. In the 39th minute, however, Mikayla Smith took a free kick from 25 yards out and found the far corner of the net to put Broome up 2-0.

The Hornets entered the break with a 2-0 lead, and the offensive attack continued once the second half began. In the 65th minute, Kara Sullivan delivered an exceptionally strong finish inside the box off a feed from Smith and Broome lengthened its lead to 3-0.

The Hornets dominated possession for the majority of the match. Carly Hein kept a clean sheet in goal for the Hornets, making a crucial breakaway save.

Broome improves to 3-8 on the season with the win.

Next up on the docket is a road contest at Finger Lakes CC on Saturday at 3 p.m.
