The women’s soccer team hosted Tompkins Cortland CC on Wednesday in the season finale and won 7-1.
The scoring barrage started quickly for the Hornets with a goal by Madeline Hyzer at the 3:13 mark, assisted by Zephora Brouillette. Just over 14 minutes later, Brouillette knocked in a goal of her own, off an assist from Kara Sullivan. In the 35th minute Haley Beckwith found the net off an assist from Amber Perry. The Hornets would enter the break with a 3-1 lead.
In the 60th minute of play, Sullivan got one past the Panthers’ keeper thanks to another Perry assist. Emelinne Corrington would join the scoring party with a goal at the 63:10 mark on a Carly Hein assist. Sullivan tallied her second goal of the night at the 78:50 mark on Perry’s third assist of the match. Hein, who started in goal for the Hornets, limited scoring opportunities for the Panthers and then delivered a score for her own team, finding the net in the 84th minute on a Beckwith assist.
Hein had a save in the net before being replaced by Hyzer who also tallied a save.
Hein’s name was all over the box score in the match, playing in goal, scoring a goal, and tallying an assist. As was Hyzer’s as she played in goal and then scored a goal as well. Other standouts included Brouillette and Beckwith each with a goal and an assist, Sullivan with two goals and an assist, and Perry with three assists.
Brouillette ends the season as the #8 goal-scorer in NJCAA Region III with seven.
The Hornets finish the season with an overall record of 5-8, but on a four game winning streak, two of which were shutout victories.
