SUNY Broome women's basketball team faced the Corning Red Barons

The women’s basketball team traveled to Corning, NY on Wednesday to face the Red Barons, losing 62-33.

A competitive first half saw the Hornets hold a one-point lead after the first quarter and only trail by 11 entering halftime. Corning asserted its dominance in the second half though, outscoring SUNY Broome 36-18, and running away with the win. A depleted SUNY Broome bench contributed to the runaway second half, as four Hornets tallied four or more personal fouls in the contest, with three fouling out.

The Hornets fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play. The Red Barons improve to 3-0 on the young season with the win and all three wins have been against MSAC opponents.

Juliana Turner and Sophia Ashman tied for the lead in scoring for the Hornets, each with eight points. Lillian Monroe also contributed seven points to go along with two blocks. Zephora Brouillette had four points, 12 rebounds, a steal, and a block. Madeline Hyzer scored two points and pulled down six rebounds.

The next scheduled contest for SUNY Broome is a fourth-straight road trip, this time to SUNY Adirondack on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip-off.
