The women’s basketball team fell to Region III’s 5th ranked Herkimer College 65-51 in Herkimer on Saturday and returned home to face the Region’s 4th ranked Mohawk Valley CC on Sunday and fell 61-44.
Despite jumping out to a commanding 23-8 first quarter lead on Saturday against the Generals, the Hornets couldn’t harness the three point shooting of Hinano Imamura and Kapri Bradshaw. The duo connected on nine three balls, six of them coming in a 34 point third quarter for the host team. Ava Eichler led Broome with 13 points and added 5 rebounds and 2 assists to her totals. Ghia Medovich paced the Hornets on the boards with 11 to go with her 6 points, followed by Melissa Carden with 10 rebounds. Megan Carden chipped in with 9 points and 7 boards and Sophia Dutra added 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Turn the table on Sunday, the Hawks jumped out to a 22-8 first quarter lead and were never really threatened after that. Medovich was good for 16 points, 12 of those points coming by way of the three ball. Abby Lyon turned in a solid game despite cold shooting, she grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, both collegiate highs and went 5-6 from the charity stripe. Melissa Carden chipped in with 10 rebounds and 8 points and Dutra added 6 points and 7 rebounds.
The week doesn’t get any easier for Broome, Wednesday finds them in Syracuse for a 5:00 P.M. MSAC contest against Onondaga CC, currently sitting in the Region’s #2 spot before hosting the Region’s top ranked Fulton-Montgomery Raiders on Sunday.
