The Hornets picked up their sixth win of the season on Saturday against Genesee CC, defeating the Cougars by a score of 65-53.

Brooke Ladd led the way for the Hornets, scoring a collegiate best 25 points. Ladd shot 73.3% from the field including a 50% showing from the arc as well as adding 9 boards and 5 steals to her totals. Broome got out to an early lead in the first with Ladd scoring 12 of the Hornet’s 16 points for a three point lead after one. The second quarter saw a balanced effort extend the lead to thirteen points going into the half. Genesee got the best of the host team in the third frame, outscoring Broome 14-11 behind Jillian Curtis’ eight points. The final quarter saw the Cougars close the gap to three points but a couple of key free throws and timely buckets by Megan Carden helped preserve the victory.

Megan Carden scored 6 of her 8 points in the fourth quarter and Melissa Carden pulled down 7 rebounds and added 4 points to her line.

Genesee dropped to 5-4 while Broome improved to 6-3 overall. Up next for the Hornets is their first of four road games in five days starting with Corning CC on Wednesday, scheduled for a 5:00 P.M. start.
