The Hornets fell to the NJCAA’s 7th ranked Onondaga CC, 72-64, on Wednesday evening in the Baldwin Gym.

Broome came out on fire, scoring 27 points in the first quarter including six three pointers. Ava Eichler led the attack with 18 points to end the quarter with the Hornets up by 10 points over the Lazers. The second quarter saw the host team extend their lead midway through the frame by as many as 16 points, led by Megan Carden and Brooke Ladd, dropping 8 and 5 points respectively. Broome still managed to keep a 10 point lead going into halftime up 44-34. The difference in the game came down to the third quarter with Onondaga outscoring Broome 20-7 and a 54-51 lead going into the fourth. The Hornets cut the lead to within one point with under three minutes to go but the Lazers were able to convert from the free throw line and hit some key shots down the stretch. The Lazers, also the top team in Region III, improved to 8-2 overall; 1-0 MSAC while the Hornets fell to 4-3 overall; 0-1 MSAC.

Ava Eichler proved to be a handful in the first half, hitting a collegiate high five 3-pointers, all in the first quarter, on her way to a game high 25 points. Brooke Ladd also got in the double digit column with 11 points and added 8 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks to her totals. Terricka Glisson pulled down 6 rebounds and chipped in 4 points and Megan and Melissa Carden scored 9 points and 4 points respectively in their collegiate debut. Broome hit a season-high nine 3-pointers in the contest, Eichler (5), Ladd (2) and Meg Carden (2)

Broome will return to the hardwood on Thursday, January 6th at 5:30 pm in Canadaigua for a MSAC against Finger Lakes CC.
