The women’s basketball team let one slip away on Saturday against Jefferson CC falling late 56-47 and followed up with a win on Sunday in the Baldwin Gym by defeating Finger Lakes CC 50-18.

Defense kept the Hornets within striking distance on Saturday in Watertown against the Region’s second ranked team. The low-scoring affair saw both teams go into the half tied at 21-21. The Hornets kept the Cannoneers in check throughout the third frame, taking a 2 point lead into the final quarter, 34-32. Free throws and a key field goal in the last two minutes sealed the win for the host team. Ava Eichler led all scorers with 22 points to go along with her 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Ghia Medovich posted another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Broome rebounded with a dominating win on Sunday against the Lakers. The Hornets jumped out to a 22-7 lead after one and never looked back. Eichler and Sophia Dutra paced Broome with 10 points apiece, the former chipped in with 2 assists and 2 steals and the latter added 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks. Medovich came up 1 point short of another double-double, scoring 9 points and grabbing 11 boards to go with her 4 steals. Melissa Carden and Abby Lyon had 10 rebounds apiece in the winning effort to go with 7 and 4 points respectively.

The Hornets return home on Wednesday evening for a 5:00 pm tipoff against the Panthers from Tompkins Cortland CC.
