Gwendolyn Payne (Conklin, NY) led all scorers in the fourth.

The Hornets came from behind to defeat Camden County CC, 57-47, in Blackwood, NJ on Saturday afternoon despite foul troubles and cold shooting from the floor.

The contest proved to be a game of runs with the Cougars winning the first quarter 17-14 behind Tatiana Johnson’s 6 points. Broome took the second quarter behind a solid defensive effort, holding the host team to just 6 points to go into the half up 29-26. The third quarter mirrored the second, but this time it was Camden holding Broome to 6 points while putting up 15 points on the board and a 38-35 lead entering the final quarter. The Cougars extended their lead to 6 points midway through the fourth before the Hornets bench took over to lead the comeback. Lekeisha Temu (Tanzania) hit a big 3-pointer to bring the visitors within striking distance and Gwendolyn Payne (Conklin, NY) led all scorers in the fourth with 8 points to secure the 10 point road win.

Ava Eichler (Oneonta, NY) led all scorers with 23 points and added 8 rebounds to her totals. Payne finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals coming off the bench while Temu, also off the bench, contributed with 5 points and 7 boards. Avery Kenyon (Hammond, NY) filled the stat line with 7 points, 15 boards, 4 assists, 4 steals and 5 blocks. Broome finished the contest shooting just 29% on the afternoon including a dismal 13% from the 3-point line and 55% from the charity stripe.

Broome (2-0) will take another long trip next Saturday to Saranac Lake for a Region III game against North Country CC (2-0), currently sitting at #5 in the NJCAA DIII Preseason Poll.
