SUNY Broome Women's Soccer team advanced to the North A District, Region III Championship game after defeating the #4 seed Niagara County CC

The women’s soccer team advanced to the North A District, Region III Championship game after defeating the #4 seed Niagara County CC, 6-2, in Sanborn on Tuesday afternoon.

The #5 seed Hornets showed no signs of being troubled by the rains or the Thunderwolves, striking first five minutes into the contest after Arianna Michitti found the back of the net courtesy of a through ball from Dana Stepp. Broome never looked back. Ten minutes later Michitti grabbed up a loose ball in the box and picked up her second of the day on her way to her 5th hat trick of the season. Niagara got on the board at the 37:20 mark off a goal from Kara Seguin only to be answered by Stepp’s first goal of the contest less than a minute later by a rocket from 25 yards out to give the visitors the 3-1 half time lead.

The second half saw more of the same from the Hornets, scoring just 47 seconds into the half after Avery Kenyon battled through the opposition and pounded in a rebound inside the 6 yard box raising her total to 12 goals on the season. Seguin netted her second ball to bring the Thunderwolves within 2 in the 59th minute. Stepp got her second goal of the game in the 74th minute by calmly firing a PK past the Niagara keeper. Michitti finished the scoring in the 83rd minute by completing her hat trick off Stepp’s 3rd assist of the day to go along with her two goals. Michitti currently stands at a team leading 22 goals while Stepp is at 14 on the season. As usual the Hornets defense was stellar, limiting the home team to few serious attacks.

Broome (10-3) will travel to Herkimer this Saturday to face Mohawk Valley (11-1), the NJCAA’s 3rd ranked team, in the North District A Championship game.
