SUNY Broome women's volleyball team went 1-2 at the Herkimer

The women’s volleyball team went 1-2 at the Herkimer POD on Saturday, dropping matches to Fulton Montgomery and Herkimer College 3-0 before winning their match against Mohawk Valley CC 3-0.

In the first match of the day the Hornets faced the Herkimer Generals. The Hornets had faced the Generals at the Jefferson Invitational earlier this year and won 3-0, this time it was the Generals coming out on top in the closely contested match by set scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-23. Melissa Carden led the offense with 13 kills and Brianna Rossi lead the defense with 34 digs. Anna Tiberia had 23 assists and Gabriella Bishop had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Broome took the second match 3-0 against Mohawk Valley by set scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-15. Carden again led the offense with 12 kills and Casie Kephart added 6 kills. Madyson McMorrow and Tiberia had 8 digs apiece for the defense and the later finished with 20 assists as well. Every player on the team had at least 1 ace on the match. McMorrow had a team-high 3 aces.

In the final match the Hornets faced Fulton Montgomery and lost to the undefeated Raiders 3-0 with scores of 25-7, 25-8 and 25-14. The Hornets had 9 kills on the match and 35 digs.

Broome returns home on Wednesday night for a MSAC matchup against Jefferson CC with a start time of 6:00 pm.
