They’re here! SUNY Broome welcomed 315 residents to the Student Village during “Move-In Day” on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026. More than 75 faculty, staff, and student volunteers were on hand to unload cars and transport belongings to the Village’s 60 apartment-style suites.

Families like the Merchants from Monroe, NY, were genuinely appreciative to have help from SUNY Broome students like Melow Hightower and Madison Meinhold as they moved their son, Joshua, into the Student Village for the first time.

“The students have been an incredible help,” Diora Merchant said. “Joshua, and all his shoes, were moved in minutes!”

Now in its 12th year, “Move-In Day” is a collaborative effort between SUNY Broome’s Housing Department and the Office of Public Safety.

After a hard day’s work, SUNY Broome’s newest residents, their families, and campus volunteers, were treated to a picnic lunch from the College’s long-time partner, Central Baptist Church. Understanding that moving to a new community can be daunting, members of the Central Baptist Church have made it part of their mission to personally welcome SUNY Broome’s newest residents with a complimentary lunch and warm wishes for a successful year.

Students had the weekend to get acclimated to campus life in preparation for the first day of classes on Monday, August 24, 2026.
