Zoom screen shot of the Cast Of Yours Truly Jack Frost

A historic event for SUNY Broome Theater is the creation of our first-ever virtual production, Yours Truly, Jack Frost, a holiday children’s show by Tim Kelly. The schools in our entire region will be invited free of charge to this pre-recorded, livestreamed performance the week of December 14.

All educators are experiencing the challenges working in the technical/cyber world during this time of COVID,” theater Director Katherine Bacon explained.

“For the normally ‘live’ art of theater there are special obstacles to overcome.  But despite that, educational and professional theater and music groups are charged with keeping these arts thriving during this time, such as the Folger Shakespeare’s ‘The Show Must Go on Online’” she said.

The expertise of Communications’ Instructor Ed Evans has been a great help to us with a number of the issues that have arisen, the primary one being actors who can rehearse and perform only from their own homes. All the production elements that are normally taken care of in the live theater space now have to be incorporated remotely. This collaboration between Theater and our Communications Department began last semester with the successful Radio Play that garnered much local media attention. We also want to thank Dr. Eric Sheffield, the Music and Theater Arts Department’s new Assistant Professor for his knowledge and assistance, and of course our wonderful IT Department,” Bacon said.

SUNY Broome Theater is proud that BOCES is going to be sharing the performance details with the elementary schools in our region.
