Rage in the Cage

National Robotics League Competition 2023

On April 29, 2023, the IEEE Club and Electrical Engineering Technology students joined professor Gary DiGiacomo on a trip to Bloomsburg, PA, to compete in the 10th annual National Robotics League “Rage in the Cage” competition.

National Robotics League Competition 2023

This was the third time SUNY Broome competed in this intense double elimination style robot combat competition, where custom-built robots go head-to-head in an enclosed combat arena, trying incapacitate and eliminate their opponents. In between matches students are put on the spot and challenged to repair and rebuild their robots in time for the next match.

After an impressive showing last year where the SUNY Broome team remained undefeated, winning 1st place, 2nd place, and Best Engineered Robot, this year’s competition proved to be a bit more challenging.  While they did not emerge as champions this year, the team has a lot to be proud of. They worked tirelessly designing, building, and testing their robots, “Murder Hornet” and “Push Comes to Shove”, in the weeks leading up to the tournament.  Their hard work paid off, as they have gained valuable experience and knowledge that will help them in future competitions. Their performance was a testament to their commitment and passion for robotics.  We look forward to seeing them continue to excel in future competitions.
