When Professor Gian Roma, Chairperson of Business Programs, looks at a map of the state of New York, he envisions a series of pathways that share one commonality – they all begin at SUNY Broome. For the past five years, Roma and his team have been working as business education cartographers, mapping direct routes from SUNY Broome’s associate of science degree in Business Administration to the finest and most selective business schools in the SUNY system.
After learning that 19% of all college students in the United States focus their studies in business, the Business Department began to ask themselves, “Why should a student study business at SUNY Broome?” This question led Gian Roma and his colleagues to purposefully and strategically redesign SUNY Broome’s business administration degree into a relevant, viable, and valuable program for students from across the state and the nation. For Roma, “relevant, viable, and valuable” for a community college’s business program translated to “guaranteed transferability,” so Roma set out to build pathways that ensured just that.
After scrutinizing each course within the program to evaluate its content, quality, and transferability, the Business Department revamped over 30 credits of the business curriculum to align with the rigorous transfer requirements of our four year partners within SUNY.
What started as an exercise in curriculum redevelopment, resulted in SUNY Broome’s business administration program becoming the most universally transferable business program within the SUNY system. Our transfer partners within SUNY began to take note of the changes, and soon official agreements were drafted to concretely connect a SUNY Broome student’s path to their next business school of choice.
Thanks to the creation of these formal, 2+2 articulation agreements, students who graduate from SUNY Broome with A.S. degree in Business Administration have guaranteed admission, with junior status, to eight of the SUNY system’s most prestigious business schools including Binghamton University’s School of Management, University at Buffalo’s School of Management, University at Albany’s School of Business, and SUNY New Paltz, to name a few.
“It is an honor to be part of the team who pioneered the development of these 2+2 articulation agreements. Our agreements give students unmatched breadth of educational opportunities via the highest quality business education available within the SUNY system. All of our partner schools are AACSB accredited and many are ranked nationally as premier business schools. Now SUNY Broome students have guaranteed access to these programs with half of their coursework already banked thanks to their completion of our business administration degree,” shared Professor Roma.
So, what does this mean for prospective business students?
Here are 5 key takeaways about SUNY Broome’s Business Administration A.S. degree.

- Binghamton University’s School of Management
- University at Buffalo’s School of Management
- University at Albany’s School of Business
- SUNY Geneseo’s School of Business

2. A B.S. in business administration degree is the ideal foundation for understanding all of the key functional areas of business including: accounting and finance, marketing and sales, production and operations, management, and more!
19% of all 2 and 4 year college students in America study business. Undergraduate students that graduate with an AS in Business Administration from SUNY Broome now have guaranteed transfer to SUNY’s finest business schools.
3. Students will be admitted to top tier business universities regardless of their high school performance or standardized test score.
4 year colleges and universities admit transfer students with specific admissions criteria. Unlike first-time freshmen, transfer students are not admitted based on their high school grades and performance on standardized testing like SAT’s and ACT’s. Instead, transfer students are reviewed and admitted based on their college performance, number of credits completed, and their overall collegiate GPA. SUNY Broome offers a wealth of academic support services to assist students with earning the required GPA’s for eventual transfer.
SUNY Broome is an open enrollment institution. All students with a high school diploma or GED/TASC are eligible for admission into SUNY Broome’s Business Administration A.S. degree program.
4. Students will never have to wonder, “Will this class/these credits transfer?”
Sadly, it’s estimated that 43% of transfer credits are lost during the transition between 2 and 4 year schools. Those losses equate to both time and money. Thankfully, the SUNY Broome’s 2+2 articulation agreements guarantee direct transfer of all 64 required credits. Pre-mapped course rubrics, which were crafted and vetted by both academic institutions, take the guesswork out of course selection and eliminate the dreaded question, “Will this class transfer?”
5. You don’t need to be a local student to take advantage of this great opportunity!
Thanks to the flexible format of the business administration degree, students can complete their courses in person, via a hyflex format, or fully online. This allows students from across the state (and nation) to affordably take advantage of the transfer pathways that begin at SUNY Broome.
Example: If a student in Suffolk, Long Island wishes to attend the University at Buffalo’s School of Management (which is 437 miles away), that student can now complete the first two years of their degree remotely from the comfort of home via SUNY Broome’s online format. Pending degree completion with a minimum 2.5 GPA, that student would automatically be accepted into the junior class of one of SUNY’s finest business schools. Not only that, this student might be able to choose from a number of other top flight business schools.
Bonus Takeaway: SUNY Broome is a great value!
SUNY Broome’s tuition is one of the least expensive in the State of New York. Because SUNY Broome’s A.S. in Business Administration can be taken fully online, students do not need to incur the cost of room and board. In addition to SUNY Broome’s affordable tuition, ample scholarships and financial aid are available for students.
