This past Saturday, November 23rd, SUNY Broome Hospitality Programs hosted a culinary competition sanctioned by the American Culinary Federation.
The event brought together industry professionals and students from various other SUNY Schools as well as our local Broome Tioga BOCES. Held at the Culinary and Events Center, there were several categories such as skills, pastry, and hot food which the chefs and students participated in. Additional students from the programs volunteered their time to help make this a successful event, participating in setting up, running and cleaning up throughout the day.
The competition was judged by ACF-certified professionals that traveled to the college for this event. Students participating had the opportunity to demonstrate their developing skills, and network which was a valuable experience outside of the classroom. Students from SUNY Broome participated in the following categories and were awarded the following medals:
Claire Porter, Student Pastry Skills-Gold Medal
Langdon Sibley, Student Skills-Gold Medal
Nicolas Graham, Hot Food SKC-2, Chicken-Silver Medal
A heartfelt congratulations to the students on their accomplishments from the Hospitality Programs Department especially from their Coach Victoria Tompkins and Department Chair Maria Montemagno.
