SUNY Broome’s STEM department welcomed over 20 counselors from local school districts on Dec. 6, 2024, to explore the many facets and academic opportunities for students in the STEM field.
Counselors in attendance represented the following school districts:
- Binghamton City School District
- Broome-Tioga BOCES
- Hancock Central School District
- Maine-Endwell Central School District
- Newark Valley Central School District
- Owego-Apalachin Central School District
- Union-Endicott Central School District
- Vestal Central School District
- Whitney Point Central School District.
Associate Vice President and Dean of STEM and Workforce Development, Christine Martey-Ochola, and the STEM department hosted a day of informational sessions, tours, and hands-on activities to enrich the counselors in the many aspects of science, technology, engineering, and math. Highlights included the chance to interact with VR headsets and even get to see 3D printers in action in the guided tour.
This annual event informs K-12 partners on the growing opportunities in the future of STEM within the region both educationally and professionally, while building partnerships with SUNY Broome faculty, local schools, and community partners.
