Gary DiGiacomo and EET Graduate, Michael DiGiacomo, with SUNY Broome’s award-winning electric vehicle at Spiedie Fest 2023.

Congratulations to the Electrical Engineering Technology Department on winning “Best Electric Vehicle” at this year’s Spiedie Fest car show.

Working under the direction of Professor Gary DiGiacomo, along with Technical Assistant David Miller, students past and present are continuously striving to keep their electric converted Chevrolet Metro equipped with the latest technology. Their efforts have clearly paid off, as the award for “Best Electric Vehicle” will join the multiple “Most Fuel-Efficient Vehicle” trophies won at the Toyota Green Grand Prix through the years of competing at Watkins Glen International. Being at the Spiedie Fest enabled the team to network with industry leading companies in the area, and to reconnect with Broome graduates.

The team looks forward to working on their next big electric car project, a Factory Five Type 65 Coupe.
