SUNY Broome Combat Robotics Team tests their “metal” at Rage in the Cage.

The SUNY Broome Combat Robotics Team, showcased their engineering prowess in this year’s Rage in the Cage in Bloomsburg, PA. The team entered three combat robots into the National Robotics League sanctioned event. Each year the event draws talent from across the east coast to pit their custom designed battlebots in a fight to the death. The SUNY Broome team entered two bots in the 15-pound division (“Murder Hornet” and “Push Comes to Shove”) and one bot into the three-pound division (“Cleave”). Each bot utilized a different weapon type which highlighted the team’s technical diversity, drawing from their 6 prior years of competing.

The fast paced competition followed a double elimination format which allowed teams to perform repairs after each match. The team conducted repairs throughout the entire competition and were able to fix the robots as the tournament progressed. Even with a tight window for repairs, the team fought 13 times across the 3 entries. Their ability to quickly repair the robots under pressure highlighted the skills the team has learned in their classes at SUNY Broome. When the smoke cleared, Push Comes to Shove was in the final round. Crushmore”. After a fierce match that went the distance, the team narrowly lost the judges’ decision to long-time powerhouse “Mount Crushmore,” earning an impressive second-place finish. This podium placement adds to SUNY Broome’s strong legacy of success in the competition.
