SUNY Broome’s “season of giving” continued on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024 with the 28th Annual Giving of the Toys celebration. This time-honored tradition connects students, faculty, and staff during common hour to celebrate the holiday season and support the community’s children via donations to Broome County’s Toys for Tots initiative.

Dr. Nick Kocieniewski and Rae Palmer-Jones of SUNY Broome’s Student Activities Office co-emceed the event, which included a musical performance by the SUNY Broome’s Chamber Singers, a donut and hot chocolate bar, and the official “Giving of the Toys” ceremony.

Dr. Tony Hawkins, President of SUNY Broome, shared his love for SUNY Broome’s commitment to tradition and to generosity. He thanked the campus community for participating in a series of recent philanthropic initiatives – the Hornet Hope Center Challenge, the 24 Hours of Giving, and the Giving of the Toys.

More than 40 campus offices, academic departments, and student clubs and athletic teams, donated gifts that will be distributed to children throughout Broome County by the Binghamton Police Department.

SUNY Broome alum, Christopher Marshall, serves as the coordinator of Broome County’s Toys for Tots mission on behalf of the Binghamton Police Department.

If you were unable to attend SUNY Broome’s Giving of the Toys celebration and still want to support Broome County’s Toys for Tots, you can stop by the Toys for Tots drop off barrels at the Binghamton Police Department, Broome County Sheriff’s Office, Endicott Police Department, Johnson City Police Department, and the Vestal Police Department. Donations will be accepted until December 20, 2024.
