Athletic Department has recently welcomed Brendan Doherty, Logan Brown, and Stephen Reyes

All three new editions have been hard at work for Broome since the start of the Fall 2023 sports season.

Doherty, who is also the men’s basketball Head Coach and the Equipment Manager, was recently added to the staff as a Student-Athlete Intervention Coach. A Binghamton, NY native, Doherty is well-equipped for the role due to his experience with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Jewish Community Center, and Catholic Charities, where he used sports to reach at-risk youth in the local area. When employed by Binghamton University, Doherty worked with schools and community-based organizations to provide guidance to their after-school programming.

Doherty is in his second season as Head Coach of the men’s basketball team. He is known for his role in the training and development of some of the top prospects in New York State. His relationship with the City Rocks NY AAU basketball organization of Albany, NY led to an affiliate partnership and the founding of City Rocks Binghamton in 2020. Doherty is the Director of City Rocks Binghamton, fielding AAU teams for players from 5th-12th grade. He has additional coaching experience at Made Hoops and Hoop Group summer exposure events.

Brown has been named the Assistant Sports Information Director for the department. He comes to Broome Athletics after graduating from SUNY Cortland in May of 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. He remains enrolled at SUNY Cortland to now achieve his master’s degree in Sport Management, expected in May of 2025.

Brown is from Owego, NY and has enjoyed working in sports in the local area, bringing experience from an internship with Binghamton University Athletics. Serving as the Video Board and Graphic Operations Manager, Brown created game-day scripts for all athletic events and produced and managed the organization of content for the video boards used at all men’s and women’s basketball and baseball home games, among other duties.

Brown also helped develop the social media presence of the Sport Management department by creating “Alumni Update” graphics to update the Red Dragon community on new jobs of SUNY Cortland Sport Management alumni. Brown has also worked with Prep Baseball Report. His job as an Intramural Sports Official at SUNY Cortland allowed him to officiate the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Regional Basketball Championships at the University of Connecticut in 2023.

Reyes will serve as the Athletic Trainer for SUNY Broome. Reyes, a former football player and graduate of the Athletic Training program at Alfred University, is an experienced sports rehab specialist. He worked at UHS in Vestal, NY from 2016-2020 with the Bridge Program, one that helps athletes with their transition from post-rehab to performance. Stephen comes to Broome from Lourdes, where he facilitated his own redesigned version of the UHS Bridge Program to his patients.

The Bronx, NY native has garnered experience in athletic training with numerous high schools within the area. He is also the Owner and CEO of Nomad Performance and Rehab, a business promoting the journey to optimal performance, injury recovery, and prevention as an athlete.
