Stephanie Montgomery finds Starfish useful in her day-to-day life as a SUNY Broome student.
She can easily contact her professors, ask questions and set up appointments. Starfish is also connected to Blackboard, the college’s learning management system, which adds to its usefulness. Plus, the kudos feature — which allows instructors to give positive feedback — is a confidence-booster, she said.
“It lets you know you’re doing well,” she explained.
Quite a few of her classmates in the Early Childhood program use Starfish for a simple reason: It works.
“We all stay connected. We student-teach, and that has to work around your schedule,” Stephanie explained. “We communicate with professors when we have to schedule our student teaching hours.”
A Unadilla Valley High School graduate originally from South New Berlin, Stephanie hadn’t originally planned on going to college. That changed after she visited SUNY Broome with a friend and met her professors.
A daycare provider, Stephanie loves working with small children, which made Early Childhood Education a natural choice. She volunteered at a daycare during high school and cherishes those special moments, such as when a child first learns to ride a bike.
“I’m hoping to work at some kind of daycare or have my own someday,” she said. “Impacting a small child’s life is incredible.”
Coming to SUNY Broome was the right choice for Stephanie, who appreciates her dedicated professors and her program’s rigor and flexibility.
“I love Broome! They’re so helpful and they always want you to succeed.” she said. “I love my classes and my professors. They know we have lives, and they can work around our schedules.”
