Ashleen Speen was named the Northeast Region Coach of the Year on Thursday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The mission of the AVCA, with its headquarters in Lexington, Ky., is to advance the sport of volleyball with AVCA coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development.

Speen’s team finished fourth at the 2021 NJCAA Division III Volleyball Championship, after entering the event with a perfect 16-0 record during the regular season. The first-year coach is continuing a legacy that has seen her play at SUNY Broome (2013–14), serve as an associate volleyball coach 2016–20), and take over as the head coach this season. Speen guided the Hornets to the best finish in the school’s program.
